George Smith

Until he retired at the end of February 2016, George Smith served as Executive Vice President, Las Vegas Market President and Nevada State President of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, leading the transformation of the company’s Wholesale Credit operations. George also held management responsibility for Bank of America Merchant Services and BAML Capital Access Funds LLC, the company’s social impact private equity investing arm.

During his 24-year career with Bank of America, George also served as head of Business Banking, as Pacific Southwest Region Commercial Executive for Global Commercial Banking, and as Region Executive for Pacific Southwest Business Banking. He also led the Commercial Banking team in Nevada, in addition to having responsibility for the bank’s Commercial Bank gaming portfolio throughout the country. He joined Bank of America in Nevada in 1992 as Vice President and Credit Administrator of the Commercial Lending division.

George received his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from California State University, Fullerton, and his Master’s Degree in Finance from California State University, Fullerton.

In addition to serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the UNLV Football Foundation, he also served on the Board of Directors of the UNLV Foundation, UNLV Annual Giving Council, Nevada Development Authority, Nevada Taxpayers Association and Three Square Food Bank, and on the Advisory Boards of Lied Discovery Children’s Museum, Special Olympics of Southern Nevada and Boys Scouts Las Vegas Area Council. He also served as an executive sponsor of Bank of America’s Native American Professional Network and chaired the company’s Hispanic-Latino U.S. Leadership Council.
